One of my goals for my second graders is to be able to draw "realistic" self portraits by the end of the year. So, for our very last project we spent some time drawing ourselves the best that we could. We drew many different examples of noses, eyes, ears, and mouths and then talked about facial proportions and where things should go. Students selected face shapes that best fit their face, then drew their faces, hair and clothing. We then mixed up our own skin colors using watercolors and painted ourselves in!
I am so proud of how these turned out. It was really amazing to be able to recognize so many of them from their drawings! They did such a good job! Their personalities also shown through, which was really cute to see.
