For this project the Kindergartners and I read the book Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog by Mo Willems. We discussed the importance of sharing with others and how good sharing makes us feel. We then drew our pigeons together and practiced coloring neatly with crayons. To remember the importance of sharing we included something that we have a hard time sharing in our picture.

For our very first project of the semester the 5th and 6th graders learned about a possible art job, being an architect! We first created out very own "blue prints" and practiced drawing different parts of buildings in blue colored pencils. The students were then sent off to create their own houses. They looked for inspiration on the internet or just worked from their imaginations! Once the houses were drawn they tried out different watercolor techniques before selecting the one they wanted to use. Their houses all turned out so great and they put so much effort and hard work into them!
For our very first project in the 7th and 8th grade 3 Dimensional artwork semester we made sculptures out of pipe cleaners. We first talked about 3D shapes; what they are, how to draw them, and how to make them. Then we worked on creating detailed sketches for our final project using those 3D shapes. The students bent and twisted their pipe cleaners and mounted them onto cardboard to create their sculptures. We had lots of different things made; animals, balloons, flowers, ...even a toilet! They turned out so great!
We couldn't let Kansas Day go by without some sort of celebration in the art room! This week the first graders worked on creating large scale texture sunflowers and the kindergartners made textured bison. With the First graders, we talked about all different kinds of texture words and used them to describe the textures on our sunflowers. They then worked in their table groups to create this big, beautiful sunflowers! They got to pick their own ways to show texture on their flowers. They turned out great and are perfect decorations for their Kansas Day celebration. The kindergarteners had a short intro to texture before making their bison. We drew the bison together and then added yarn on the bison's shoulders to show texture. They then added what ever they wanted around their bison to show it on a farm, in the prairie, or where ever else they wanted their bison to be!
