My students did such an amazing job on their one point perspective drawings. So amazing we decided to hang them up for our first show in a few years! 25 of their amazing drawings are on display at the Hesston Wellness Center and the three students above also were interviewed by The Hesston Record! Read more about the show here.
The third graders have worked so hard on their scranimals! We read the book Scranimals by Jack Prelutsky before designing and creating our own scranimals inspired by the ones in the book. We combined a food item and an animal in a creative way and then gave them an environment to live in. Then we colored them in as neatly as we could with colored pencils.
The kindergartners made lady bug pictures a few weeks ago! We first skimmed through The Grouchy Lady Bug by Eric Carle (sadly we didn't have time to read the whole book). We then colored beautiful background on our white papers and added grass and dirt on top with paper. Then I guided them through drawing lady bugs. They turned out so cute!
I am SO PROUD of my 5th and 6th graders on this project! We learned how to do a few different stitches and how to make patterns before they went off on their own and made monsters. Each student designed their very own and then carefully stitched on the facial features. I then sewed them up and returned them and they turned them right side out and stuffed them! I love how each of their personalities shined through their monsters. They are so hilarious and fun!
Now that the first graders have learned to draw people it is time for us to keep practicing! This week instead of drawing me, the first graders drew themselves playing in the rain. I guided them through drawing a person from head to toe and then we added rain boots and umbrellas together. Then they added background on their own and we colored them in as neatly as we could with our crayons. Our very last step was to add the rain, we drew the raindrops together and then painted the sky blue with watercolors.
The kindergarteners learned about caves this week! We looked at pictures of the outside and inside of caves, as well as some of the amazing paintings that can be found inside of them! We then pretended to be inside of a cave and turned off all of the lights and had a pretend fire going in the background. Once we were "inside" our cave we did our own cave drawings. We first drew a bear together and then added our signature, a handprint! Once we were done we told our own stories through pictures, just like the cave people did on their walls!
